Type Locality and Naming

The type section is lies at Toupo, about 3 km east of Weining County Seat, Guizhou. It was named by West Guizhou Team on Stratigraphy, Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1965.


Lithology and Thickness

Dolomite. Gray and gray-white dolomitic crystalline limestone, ~200 m thick.

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Xinguanting Member of Caohai Fm

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Huanglong Fm and Weining Fm (or transitional upward to Dewu Fm, which is partly coeval)

Fossils

Brachiopod Gondolina-Gigantoproductu edelburgensis assemblage; the Coral Palaeosmilia stutchburyi assemblage in Lower part and Dibunophyllum turbinatum-Lithostrotion decipiens assemblage in Upper part; the Ammonoid Homoceras zone; and the fusulinid Eostaffella zone.


Age 

late Visean and early Serpukhovian, roughly correlative with the D2 subzone in the upper Visean and the E and H zones in the lower Namurian of Western Europe.
